Job Role & Purpose
As an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will manage and lead the operations function to exceptionally high standards and ensure that the required output is achieved with maximum efficiency.
Responsible for leading the overall production process of our goods and services in the most efficient and profitable manner and by holding people to account, you will ensure the organisation is running at its best, in line with documented Standard Operating Procedures while meeting robust and challenging schedules.
As a strong leader, you will develop and mentor your team of managers and supervisors and lead by example by setting standards high and ensuring that strong management skills are embedded throughout the production teams.

Your Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicating and regularly briefing teams across the wider business on all operational matters.
- Developing and driving change in line with continuous improvements and business change processes.
- Ensuring compliance is adhered to and routinely monitored through the design and publication of detailed KPI’s including operational planning, materials and stock, customer requirements, staffing, health & safety, transport and machinery performance.
- Embedding high standards and outputs by ensuring strict adherence to processes and a strong performance management culture.
- Day to day line management of your direct reports including the planning, production and warehouse staff.
- Ensure thorough training is delivered to all new employees and existing employees continue to benefit from ongoing development
- Overseeing all operational activities within the company associated with the planning, production and delivery of our goods and services.
- Restructuring operational activities where required to increase speed and efficiency.
- Responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day management of the operations team.
- Researching opportunities for cost savings across the operations function.
- Minimising operational expenditure within the business wherever possible.
- Developing leadership and coaching programmes to increase employee effectiveness.
- Implementing ‘Lean Manufacturing’ to promote and deliver the elimination of waste within the manufacturing system and identify opportunities to streamline business processes and systems.
- Translate the company’s strategic plans into defined operational plans.
- Establishment and delivery of performance management KPI’s to monitor operational success against objectives, i.e. Value Per Hour (VPH), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), On-time In-full (OTIF).
- P&L responsibility for operational budgets, i.e. direct wages, operations management team, production waste, material waste, repairs and logistics (inc. forklifts and HGV).
- Incorporate Lean Manufacturing principles into all processes.
- Plan and implement multiple, complex projects.
Your Typical daily tasks include:
- Conduct routine documented site walks to assess site maintenance, production techniques and general issues.
- Ensure all team members are adhering to H&S, housekeeping and correct working procedures.
- Monitor colleague’s holidays/absenteeism/establishment costs and identifying future needs and or areas of concern.
- Conducting initial performance and conduct meetings with production staff, with guidance from the HR.
- Attend Disciplinary and investigation meetings as required.
- Liaise with Production, Planning and Warehouse staff to determine the progress of work, completion dates, deliveries and relevant inventory details.
- Liaise with associated departments to ensure an efficient flow of materials to meet production.
- Full interaction with shop-floor management daily to resolve issues regarding manufacturing efficiency.
- Maintain KPI dashboards to ensure everyone has full visibility on daily performance.
- Undertake continual performance analysis of time allowed vs. time taken and ensure outputs are measured and reported.
- Oversee dispatch and goods in and provide support, advice and decisions when required.
- Ensure quality standards are embedded within production and quality issues are investigated in a timely manner and in line with internal processes.
- Oversee and lead the month end stock take.
